He was born in Bressanone in 1953. After obtaining a diploma from the Art Institute of Urbino he settled in Florence where in 1982 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts.
In the years 1984 and 1985 he won two scholarships for the international school of art graphics Il Bisonte and specialized in chalcography and lithography.
He worked as an illustrator with the publishing houses La Nuova Italia, Fatatrac, Treccani, Carthusia and Castoro and with the INAF (national institute of astrophysics) of Padua.
As an engraver and illustrator he has participated in various exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
Italian visual artist and long-time professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Macerata and currently at the Academy of Florence as a professor of Graphic Art, he presented his life’s work in Central Europe for the first time. In addition to nearly a hundred color graphics and illustrations, the unique exhibition also offered several author’s books reminiscent of mysterious medieval manuscripts. “Fantastic creatures in the form of five-legged monsters, dragons and mythical characters pushed beyond the limits of common ideas and, together with the accompanying program for children, inspired creativity. The Bestiary exhibition complemented the Collection of Children’s Illustrations in the 3+ gallery and was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
His fantasy world, where fish can fly, snakes walk and cats look like people, was presented to Český Krumlov. The Bestiarium exhibition by the important Italian graphic designer and illustrator Maurizio Olivotto occupied a large part of the exhibition space from 20 May to 15 October 2023.
